| A little charm and a lot of style (2003) | ||||||||||||||||||
There were those that doubted it was possible but, following on from the initial triumph of last year's debut event, Fun In The Sun 2003 has indeed become an even greater success. Extended over a full day, this year's event was the first to feature a competitive element. Selly Park, Birmingham was the venue, staging an afternoon of 'old skool' sports. Events included the evergreen classic Egg and Spoon Race, a controversial three-legged race, and a grand finale of two complete rounders matches. The attendance was also up on last year with sixteen people taking part in this year's event (Ok, I can't actually remember how many attended last year but I think it was less than sixteen). Revelers came from as far and wide as Amesbury, Wiltshire and Ash Vale, Hampshire to compete in the summer heat before heading off to one of Birmingham's classier establishments for a night of celebration and dance (and Soph, there really was no need to tell that strange guy you were going to break his legs).
This means that nothing has gone unnoticed and, Rob, that does include your blatant pull on Sophie and Kate at the halfway stage of the Three-legged Race. When I get more time I will put as many of the pics as possible on this website so you can all have a look but before then you'll have to make do with the few here so far, there's only so much I can do after work on a Monday evening. The final medal table:
And I think that's just about it for now. The website will be updated with more pics and any other random stuff I can think of and, of course, we now have somewhere to plan for Fun in the Sun 2004 which, somehow, will have to be bigger and better once more. So, finally... Thanks to everyone for turning up, taking part, and at least making it look like you were having fun on the photo's. Thanks to Soph for coming up with the school sports day theme in the first place (yes, you all know who to blame now). Thanks to Soph again for doing most of the cleaning up when me and Jon were asleep on the lounge floor on Sunday afternoon. Thanks to all my neighbours who, at the time of writing, have still not complained about anything they heard or saw over the weekend. Thanks to Threshers for having an off license close to the park so that we could refill our glasses when required. ...and thanks to whoever it was that somehow managed to put the 'Baby On Board' sign in the back of my car, very thoughtful of you. (And yes, very clever) Ciao. James x ©2004 | ||||||||||||||||||
