I am currently the Head of Homepage for BBC Online, working within the BBC’s Future Media and Technology department.
Previously I was the Executive Product Manager for Local and Location Services with responsibility for the development of regional and local interactive services across the UK, improving the delivery of local content and location services across bbc.co.uk, and coordinating the use of maps/mapping technology on the BBC’s interactive platforms.
I am a product manager with over ten years experience of leading editorial, technical and design teams creating and maintaining digital services within the UK media.
I left university in 1998 and began work as a strategy analyst for BBC English Regions, covering the audience reporting and strategic positioning of regional television and local radio services across England.
In the right place at the right time, I designed and built the initial pilots for the BBC’s local web service in 2000 and subsequently worked in a variety of editorial and technical roles as the service developed.
I spent four and a half years as Assistant Editor for the local BBC websites in England, working on many new editorial initiatives and overseeing advances in technology during this time.
In 2004 and in need of a rest I decided to take some time out, packed a rucksack and booked a one way ticket to Sydney, Australia.
One year later and I was back at the beeb and getting stuck into the work to revamp the BBC’s website, project-named BBC2.0, under the guidance of Tom Loosemore (now working at Ofcom Channel 4). During this time I focused on plans for developing localness on bbc.co.uk which led to a role as Development Manager, Interactive for BBC Nations and Regions.
A product management role followed, taking responsibility for all mapping and location services within BBC Online and overseeing the integration of the local journalism service into the main BBC News website. In 2010 I led the re-launch of the BBC’s Travel News website before moving into my current role as Head of Homepage for BBC Online.
Originally from Devon in the South West of England, I moved to Birmingham, England, in 1995 where I gained a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and Computer Science from The University of Birmingham.
Married with two children, and one more on the way, I now live in Warwickshire.
